You can see the tabs around the outside of the light on this shot:

Dremel away the stamped plastic, until you reach the red tabs of the lens:

Push the red part with a screwdriver, and it will push the lens free:

 

Here you can see the 4 tabs on the lens, and where they locate in the chrome section:

Firmly prise the chrome section away from the body of the lens, and you'll end up with 4 pieces in total:

Key the chrome surface, ready for painting:

 

cheer for this! did you just paint the middle chrome part. or the main chrome part of the light? or both?

 

I painted the 3rd piece along in this pic:

Although I've painted it all matt black, and it makes the light a lot darker. In the past I've just painted the edges, and left the chrome behind the red lense.

I'll take some more pics as I finish it.

 

How did you put it all back together, you re seal it with anything?

going to try this at weekend on my facelift

 

I haven't put them back together yet, but will be using Tiger seal. I've done a set in the past and just used clear Araldite.

 

Tiger seal sounds good make sure there water tight.

doesn’t look to difficulty just fiddly and make sure don’t cut to much

looks sweet oli, what paint did you use on the indicators ?

 

It was just a can of red tint spray off eBay. I masked off the orange parts, but the finish isn't 100% round the edges where I removed the tape...if I was to do it again I'd just spray the whole lens red (orange and red part) to give a clean finish.

but when you painted the indicator red, was the colour still ok? i had to get green bulbs wen i tinted my lights red as they flashed red

 

They do flash red, slightly. I bought some LED green bulbs, but they weren't bright enough, so I coloured in my normal bulbs with a green Sharpie pen - they're slightly more orange, but not completely.

 

Here is mine done a month go, don't be to heavy handed with the silicone as it spreads inside when applying pressure and looks shit if visible.

On the facelift rear lights does the chrome section come away from the body of the lens or have people just masked the lens part off and sprayed the silver area?

 

A bit of playing and found out the chrome bit is actually sprayed on the lens and cannot be separated. Will mask the lens off, spray and fingers crossed!

Here's my $100 hint

DO NOT DREMEL IT!

I'm not a native speaker and reading this might be very confusing, I'm sorry about that in advance.

Get a sharp (thin bladed!) knife and gently tap it into the glue. Use the handle off an old screwdriver or something not to heavy. When it's in deep enough, use the same handle to gently move the knife through the glue, around the light. Move with the glue so to say.
This way you'll be abled to remove the lens with minimal damage, dremeling would leave you a gap that can need a lot of silicone to fill. Also: I've done this a few times now and I can open two lights in under 15 minutes. Try doing that with a dremel
