After having found a stone chip on the rear quarter panel that had turned into a hole, I've decided to give the whole car a lick of paint as it was starting to look a bit tired.

I thought it was worth posting up here, as some of the trim was a bit tricky to remove, especially the chrome belt line and I can offer a bit of advice on that now.

I've not gone crazy with the strip down, but I've removed all the bits that were simple to take off.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to body work, so any advice is appreciated. I'm prepping for primer now so I might get some paint on the body this weekend.

I'm doing a two tone colour scheme with a dark graphite roof and dark graphite on the lower part of the door, front wing and rear quarter panel. The rest of the car is the standard black. I'm hoping it will look ok

The other side had corrosion in the same place, but there was no hole. Fortunately, I caught it in time.

I think it might be an idea to fit front mud flaps to stop stones getting kicked up by the front tyres and causing stone chips in the future.

You can see that the rear arch trim looks like it's been shot blasted!

I actually took the car in due to a noisy pulley. While I was at it I did a walnut blast of the inlet valves, full silicone coolant hoses, new clips, welded in a new exhaust flexi, oil change, new coolant link pipe, finally found that inlet manifold leak! Then the header tank looked a bit old and yellow, so i changed that. That's when I thought I'd better investigate that stone chip I'd never bothered to fix.

It's a bit like this:

The space is fairly cramped for trying to paint a car. I've got a pal coming this weekend with a better gun for doing the base coat and lacquer.

I've decided to rig up aluminium ladders horizontally across the width of the ceiling so that I can hang parts from them using fencing wire bent into hooks. That should mean I can arrange things a bit better for painting.

I've finished all the priming now and flatted it all back with wet and dry so we're ready to go.

There's a lot more grey bits now:
