Is there anything you'd add to the below list of things to do while the engine is out?

Clutch/SMF conversion
Thermostat & housing
SC oil change
Drive belt
Whenever I have an opportunity I would recommend the clutch, because you know if you put it all back in you're going to have to do it another time anyway. So you may as well know you're running a brand spankers one and it will last you [emoji1305]

I'd recomend the usual wishbone power flexing and ARB bushes whilst the subframe is down and off. Do it all in one hit! [emoji1303]

If you do a clutch swap then I would look at using the following parts

TTV Flywheel
Helix Organic Disc
Stock Cover Plate
New Thrust Bearing / Thrust Tube etc
Also do the engine RMS

So this is kind of what I've got in mind for the actual swap:

Remove subframes from both cars
Trolley jack under Cooper engine and slide out the front
Trolley jack under S engine and slide out, secure while doing bits
Slide S engine into shell and bolt up
Fit subframe etc.

Is there any reason I'm changing the subframes, or can it be done without?

All the engine take outs I've done I've never really taken out using a jack. I would recommend using a engine crane, saves the hassle and back ache by miles! Also you would be so angry after all that work taking the Cooper s engine out then it falling off of the trolley jack, just a thought...

That was my concern, I can get hold of an engine crane, no problem.

Would you then suggest supporting the engine on the crane, and roll it out the front (as opposed to lifting it up?)

My main worry is I'll be doing this all on a gravel drive! So the engine crane won't be particularly manoeuvrable. I was thinking of getting a couple of large sheets of plywood to do the work on.

You would either have to take the bonnet off or jack the car up about 4ft to even stand a chance of getting it out without taking the front off. You need to take the front off to connect everything up properly anyway and you need to swap the radiators over as the hoses and fans are different.

Yet we pull them out using a jack all the time... [emoji848]

Gravel driveway though, good luck either way. Definitely need some ply to make stuff slide regardless of method.
You have a nice workshop and many pairs of hands, I did it on a gravel drive on my own hence why I suggested he not try it.
