30.5.2018 - Ron 98 Found

Small update....Ireland has shit petrol. But recently one of the brands has been bought out by Circle K and they've finally introduced a Ron 98 to the market. And jesus christ does it make a difference to an R53, lumpy idle gone, smooth acceleration, better mileage and a sweeter sounding milltek that pops at low revs. Veryhappy.

A few pics from last night, getting ready for a road trip out west later this week.

Parts update, bought new rear disks and mintex pads to match the fronts.

Godspeed Disks to fit the R56 JCW Front Brakes I previously bought. to be installed: R56 JCW Callipers + Mintex Pads + Godspeed 6 Groove Disks + Goodridge Brake Lines + ATP 5.1 Brake Fluid

'Evo' MINI Front Wiper Blates

After this it'll be a set of PS4s for front axle and that'll be me for the year.

I hope they're not the discs you're going to try to fit, in that pic?

Godspeed Brakes are local to me, and I have recently bought my brake setup from them. Can highly recommend them. I went for the 'G' hook discs for the R56 brembo calipers

Thats good to hear. I just wanted them non-drilled as the OEMs are drilled. Godspeed have good reviews and a good price too

What size PS4s?

Tempted by the 205 55 16s but I feel might look too big
This is mine on that size rainsport3 on a 7j TD 1.2.

They do look a bit "balloony" tbh, I have 50 profile RE002s on at the min, and they have a much squarer sidewall.

The PS4s should look OK I reckon.

Does adding extra to the sidewalls add some cushioning to the ride of the mini?

Mine has 17's and the tyres are like paint smears. Also a huge fan of rainsport tyres :thumbup1:

Yep, I have 205-55-16 Goodyear Vector G2's as my winters and even on monotube race suspension the ride isn't bad.

Update - Service and 15% Pulley Install

Car was back with the mechanic this week - changed the oil, and installed a 15% pulley (from orranje) with matching plugs and belt. The torque has moved further down the revs which makes the car more enjoyable to daily drive.

Also I had a sneaking suspicion that the Janspeed Sports Cat was not in great shape, so last weekend I took a trip to collect an OEM manifold/cat from WildThing/Brian (Thanks Brian):

He has a great set up by the way - really stunning collection of Minis:

So off came the Janspeed and turns out the Janspeed Cat was toast, totally loose where the edges had melted away. The OEM manifold is back on, and maybe one day I'll get a TomCat fabricated:

Also changed my mind about investing in 18in Michelin tyres, cancelled the order - and instead took advantage of Black Friday deals to get a set of 17" Rota RBs with Falken Zeix 912 tyres.

When they arrive I'll install those with the r56 JCW brakes I've been hoarding and then it'll be off to the annual MOT/NCT.

So it turned out the rota RBs had an 8week lead in - cancelled the order and spent the money on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, fitted my R56 JCW front brakes with new disks and Mintex pads all round; and fitted the OMP lower brace.

Along with a NCT/MOT 'd which passed with no advisories.

The Michelins ride lovely, and the amazing grip has finally allowed me to run with traction control off 100% of time in confidence which really suits the auto gearbox. Brakes are also a vast improvement.

Thinking about possibly lowering it another 15mm ish...still a little too much wheel gap but then Irish roads are super bumpy, and don't want driveshaft issues.

A bit if a change in only one year of ownership:
