Hi,

A few years back I had a 60 plate, R56 Cooper S. I only had it about 10 months - life happened and I needed a bigger car. I did love it though. (Had a notion a few months ago of trying to buy it back. Googled the reg and found a place that had had it for sale but it had gone)

Now that time has passed I fancied getting something as a weekend/sunny day car. Kept a look out for a few classics, including Escort mk2's and classic Mini's. But the prices of those seems to have gone mental.

Anyway, I happened to stumble across an ad for a 2003 R50 Cooper, with JCW body kit and sports suspension for what seemed like a good price.

Long story short, I should be picking it up sometime in the next few days.

It's missing the front spotlights. The brackets and wiring are there, just the lights themselves are missing. I might reinstate them - once I've figured out what lights I'd need to replace them with (suggestions welcome!).

Other than that there is a little patch of bubbling paint at the bottom of each door. I don't think that will be too much of a job to get sorted.

I might even take it to the Mini show at Gaydon motor museum in June!

Nice! Post some pics when you can.

I think the oem spots are from Wipac and come in chrome or black. You should be able to use just the lights from the kit to complete your setup if all of the factory wiring is still ok.

Thanks. Would you happen to know what kit I might need?

I see a bunch on eBay but they all seem to come with their own wiring and I don't know if they would be compatible with the factory wiring.

This is what I'm probably going to go with if I can't clean up the minor rust on my lights. They should be the oem rally light housings, except for the Wipac logo in the lens. The listing is for a complete kit with generic toggle switch, but you would only need the lights in the styrofoam as seen in the first pic since you have everything else. Just make sure all of your existing wiring, etc. is correct and you don't exceed the factory bulb wattage.

If you look for the lights only, make sure they have the correct mounting base. The factory MINI spots had the round contoured bases/mounts, not exposed brackets and bolts seen on some of the separate listings. Check out the close up pic of the two spots in the link above to see what they should look like. The other mounts should work, but they won't look factory.

The factory MINI covers should also fit the lights.

So if I just wanted the lights on their own, I could just get these BMW Mini Black Spot Lights Driving Lamps | eBay from the same seller?

They’re a different brand, but look very similar and could actually be the same except for the logo in the lens. The seller seems extremely knowledgeable with MINI lighting so I would ask him if they will work for your situation.
