Refitted an interference pulley

My r53 has a 2 part 15% pulley, I am planning to put a standard one back on to make insurance easier to get.

I can't find any guides on how to do it only to take it off.
They supplier recommend heating to 350-400c which is a bit scary.

I remember a few years ago a supplier used to say you could heat them to 250 in the oven and fit them.
Any chance of that being enough or do you need to go hotter? Can you use a blow torch?

Once it is hot enough should it just slide on with finger pressure or do you need a tool?
Do you still need to raise the engine up to make room or is that just for removal with a pulley puller?
I know I've basically got to get it on pretty quick in 1 go or will get stuck half on.
How do you know when it is on far enough?

I've got to replace the alternator so I'm going to be taking a load of stuff off around it so was thinking of having a go.

If you have a self cleaning oven they will go much hotter than 240. But safety features will not allow to open until “cooler”

How cool that is I’m not sure if high enough

not sure how finger pressure translates…..
You have been here since 2011 surely insurance is longer an issue for the “older-man”

are you doogie howsers
When I fitted my 17% interference pulley, I just used a shim of the right thickness gauged using the original pulley to fit behind the new one to get the new one to the correct depth, heated the new one in the oven to 275 deg C, used some ice on the nose of the shaft and then dropped it on, but the S/C was off, so hand/finger pressure should be fine, but obviously wearing good gloves.

It's actually my old man who is the problem
He's too old a lot of insurers won't insure him on or quote very high. Fairly normal priced to have him on it as a standard JCW

Thanks, was the shim to stop you pushing it on too far?
Yes, I made it up the same gap as was on the original.

Sorry Dan, but don't bother.

I know you mean well but there are so many responses on here to your offers that aren't positive I would stop offering if I were you.
