Hi everyone,

I have a 2010 R56 MCS that has been developing a worsening knocking noise coming from just in-front and below the drivers position.

It usually occurs in a higher gear at LOW speeds going over any rough terrain. This leads me to think it could be gearbox related? It’s more of a “wobbling” noise as it will make 4 or 5 knocking noises in quick succession, like a judder.

It tends to only happen in a higher gear at low RPM rather than say 2nd gear doing 20mph.

Any ideas what this could be? I can try and be more specific if anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks.
Elliot

Get a video up but common things would be anti roll bars or loose subframe bolts.
All easy to check and cheap if it is.

It could be the rear lower engine mount or the central driveshaft bearing. You'll need to get underneath it and start giving things a bit of a wiggle.

anti roll bar drop links common , or spring torrent mounts maybe, would look at front tyres see if uneven wear ir so then front trailing arm bushes maybe .. need to jack it up use a 3ft bar and go find movement , or get a check done by a garage
