Have an R56 JCW with 66k on the clock and recently had it stage 1 remapped at a well known mini tuner
It really has transformed the car and produced reasonably healthy figures of 239 bhp / 330nm torque.
All is well and good bar when I change gear between 4 and 5k under load, it seems to judder ever so slightly and the revs drop below 4k before power comes back.
Doesn't happen under 4k or over 5k rpm
Doesn't seem to happen when I let off the throttle in the same gear between 4 or 5k rpm either.

It's going back in for coilovers and they have kindly offered to take it out and see if they can replicate it when it does

But i'd like to know your initial thoughts on this

Stock car bar high flow air filter and NGK iridium spark plus which where fitted just prior to the remap / Dyno

Cheers

Has a decoked been done on the car?

Does the ECU have any codes?

Best to look at live data at those revs 4 - 5k by an experience mechanic.

It's the N18 engine so assumed a decoke was not needed? Happy to have it done it necessary.

ECU has just been repaired and cleared of any codes by Lohen and given the all clear by them so no issue there.

Did it happen before the remap or after the remap?

All DI engines will get carboned up but to different levels.

Could be anything from the turbo side, fueling etc...

I know many people have good experiences with Lohen, but last time I took the car in for some work and it didn't turn out too well for my car.

There are horror stories wherever you take a car, so hopefully mine doesn't suffer the same fate.

I guess i'll start by trying new coil packs then?

Still suffering this issue - wondering how it can be boost related if it doesn't occur when I remain in gear and rather does it during a gear change between 4 and 5k?

What did Lohen say when you took it back for coilovers?

What makes you think it's boost related?

If you find someone who knows what they are doing, can look at your live data streams during 4-5K range runs and see possible causes.

Without proper diagnosis, it's all guess work.

They said that i've got to book it in for diagnostics before they can comment further. Mentioned on road live logging to see what's causing it.

Well if it isn't boost what else is it? I did think clutch delay valve but seems the R56 doesn't have one - plus no one else seems to suffer a similar issues and seems i'm witnessing an isolated case (as ever)

I thought i'd bump this in case anyone had any further thoughts.

The car is now on 73k, and the issue is still apparent - between 3900 and 4500k revs - basically change any gear then and there is an immediate hesitation while it drops below that rev range then the power comes in, all in about half a second or so. Happens in all / most gears. Doesn't occur either below the 3900 or above 4500 and pulls strongly to the redline.

It hasn't gotten any worse (or better) in that time.

I've had general servicing done (fluids / spark plugs) along with all coil packs last year but no improvement.

My thoughts were either new injectors as per @Maccmike above, or a walnut blasting de-coke (though this is an N18, will it need benefit from this?)

Anyone else able to offer insight? I'd love to solve this as I want to be able to enjoy the car properly again!

Thankyou for reading / offering any input.

I had a very similar issue from a Lohen Manic stage two map. If you check the OBD2 do you get fuel shutoff and superknock codes? Either way I'd bin their map and get a tune from SRR, RPM, Hybrid Tune or another reputable tuner. My engine grenaded after running the car with this "hesitation" that you've spoken of. Lohen couldn't even explain it after I got it mapped on the drive back on the test drive. Useless.

Hope you get it sorted.

That's interesting but also worrying to know - they denied noticing any of the symptoms when I notified them, saying it was down to my gear changes.

I'll be logging any potential codes this weekend with the help of a friends OBDII reader - can I possibly PM you if need be to discuss further?

I’ve not had good experience with Lohen personally, they found lots of work (admittedly) needing doing on my previous R53 but missed obvious things that another independent mechanic had to remedy less than a week later despite me asking them to check said items on his advice, tried to fob me off when I made a complaint too

It got sorted in the end but I won’t use them again even though they are only 30 mins down the road from me

Oh dear, well looks like I've made a regrettable, rather expensive mistake then :(

Not even sure how to proceed to correct the issue now - would the best bet to be having a fresh map put on it by someone like 1320?

70+k if mine I'd be confirming the cam timing is still correct before looking elsewhere, might not resolve much putting it right, but better than chasing other stuff and not....

Sure no worries at all. The thing with Lohen is it's never their fault. Incorrectly fitted coilovers that clunked around before I even set off 3.5hrs south. I asked them and got told that's how coilovers are. I'm not an idiot about things so a battle for a later date.
If you have the option to revert back to stock map, I would absolutely do that. If it cures your hesitation it's just confirming my experiences about their tunes.

That's an interesting point - unfortunately near me in Derby there's an absolute dearth of specialists i'd be able to take it to for confirmation..

Wow that's pretty appalling - it'll be interesting to see what their response is when you confront them over it..... I was left distinctly unimpressed by their fobbing me off (admittedly I have very little technical know-how)

I wish I could revert it to stock just to see if that cures it!

Derby to 1320 won’t take long down the M1/A14

even a trip over to carsorbikes on the Wirral wouldn’t take too long I’d it was something he could look at, takes me 45 mins from crewe and derby is an hour away for me (funnily enough driving there later tonight for work!)
