Hi all, what's the best way of connecting ista to my R56? I've got a K+DCAN USB OBD cable that says it is INPA compatible, should that work?
Any advice on interface settings would be appreciated. My mate uses it on his BMW so all good once connected, but just need to get it registering....

Yes K+DCAN is used for R56 ISTA+

It's quite lengthy to setup and over 100GB+ for the full setup.

Just follow the instructions that came with the setup and you will be up and running.

Ah, sorry - I should have said that I was hoping to use the version already installed on my friends laptop. Can you use one version of ista for 2 cars? How would I trigger the setup for mine?

I've only managed to use it to register a new battery a year or so ago with no problems, but it's complex and takes a lot of learning.

Should have no problems using the software on multiple cars as far as I know unless the seller locked the software to 1 VIN or something like that but it's unlikely to be the case.

If it has already been setup properly to work ii should have all the latest database files for BMW range of cars.

Your best bet is to look at other forums with Rheingold software in mind for help.

Cheers, didn't seem to find my car from the get go but we'll give it another shot. My mate has a 2017 mini which works so seems to have been setup correctly for him.
We were rushing to be fair so hopefully we'll figure it out

Is that the F series MINIs as I think that uses the ENET cables similar to the newer BMWs.

It is indeed and does use the different cable but we had a K+DCAN cable for mine as well.

In that case just make sure it has the R56 database. This can be found by google search if it doesn't have it already.

Might be worth watching the YouTube videos to setup Rheingold K+DCAN settings.

Anyone with good experience buying Ista cable 2011 r59 and downloads Rheingold etc,
I can google but nowt better than 1st hand knowledge/recommendations
and I spanner far better than i keyboard, so any pointers appreciated.
just also got myself a refurbished windows laptop Levano, and last time I used windows was when Mick Jagger was selling it

You can buy the generic/copy cables on Amazon/AliExpress/ebay and they usually come with the software maybe just outdated with the download links or on CD.
