So my 52 plate R53 has been sounding like a diesel for a while, ticking loudly etc. All signs pointed to the chain tensioner so I replaced that this morning, only for the ticking to come back possibly louder. The tensioner I replaced wasn’t seized all the way in or out, and to be honest it only felt a little stiffer than the new one, so I’m not sure that was the problem in the first place. Any ideas where to go next with this? Chain guides?
