Hi all,
I brought the R53 to sell on, drove it now keeping it. My mechanic pal (Porsche specialist) is doing the work. so far we've undertaken the following.
complete cooling system overhaul with silicone hoses
new battery
teflon charger
17% Kavs pulley
uprated mounts - black powerflex
scorpian manifold - no cat
drive shafts
Coil overs
MSD coil pack
Uprated leads
timing chain and guides
GRS intercooler
uprated fuel pump
so - drove it up the road went like a dream, then like a sack of shit.
Running on 3 cylinders. Plug had broke (brand-new) and damaged the exhaust valve....
So.....rebuild time, pulled the lump out, ordered new gaskets, head bolts, recon head, new oil pump, big ends and bolts, crank bearings, piston rings etc, cravern ballancer, 245/400 cam and a new clutch as its off....
Question to the people in the know -the 10 bolts (crankshaft main bearing bolt set?) - 13m and 10mm i believe. Are these stretch bolts ? I've come this far so i'll be changing them any way but i'd like to know. Also anyone in the UK stock them ? I'll be speaking to BMW Monday but i can only find a company in the US that sells them.
The car has coverd 123,000. judging by the looks of the big end bearings it hasnt been serviced well at all in terms of oil. a lot of wear. Crank case bearings were showing very very small signs as well. I Also found part of the old timing chain guide in the pick up pipe.
The car will be used for blasts here and there and track days hence the outlay.Gone this far!
Forgot to add - R56 brakes, 5.1 fluid and brembo pads and discs to go on.
Many thanks
