Project Stealth One

I thought I'd start this thread to begin documenting the progress of my conversion from One to S.

I've owned my car over 4 years now, and the time has come to up the ante and start making it in to the car I've always wanted.

As most of you know, I've already yapped on about this long enough. Well, after 3 years, I'm finishing University; which means (hopefully!) job. Which means I'll have actual quantities of money to spend. So as the plans are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I've put this thread up now to start documenting progress.

I also have the Le Mans trip coming up - and I would love to have the engine in and done by then.

So, why stealth?

I want to do something different. My aim is to chargecool the engine so that the car can retain its sporty One/Cooper lookss for that real 'sleeper' motif. At first, the car will receive light modifications, and who knows where it'll end up. I'm hoping some sort of twin-charged nonsense!!

Anyway - a list of things to do:

* Do conversion (which involves finding suitable bits and pieces!)
* Source a chargecooler - if anyone has a cheap one, or wants to design a new slim-line one, let me know!
* Source a 3-spoke airbag so I can fit my JCW Alcantara wheel; which has been sat around for some time - hopefully in time for Le Mans so I have cruise control!!

Oh, and the first mod arrived this morning  A nice gleaming 18% KMT Pulley and Gates belt...

Thanks Ambroz, the quality is awesome :thumbup1: I can't wait to get it on the car

Sounds good Sam this is exactly what i am hoping to do some day hopefully soon when i have enough rupees ! Do you have someone in mind person/company do carry out the work ? And if so do you have a rough idea of how much you are hoping it shall cost all in all ?:thumbup1:
Cool, sounds like something id like to try. Dunno wether just to get another S, or do something stealthy like yourself. Just think of all that cash your going to earn now ;)

Never seen a 18% pulley before, thats crazyyyyy lol :)

I have sent out a few emails to individuals and companies who all have experience with the conversions. By doing so, I hope to gain a better understanding of what is needed, and the sort of cost that it can be achieved for.

I know that mullenmini did the conversion himself, and after selling his engine and gearbox etc, the whole thing cost him £800 and a day off! Not bad going if you ask me!!

I wanted an S for so long. But the value of the car has dropped. My car is about 90-95% completed in terms of looks and mod-cons...I'd be a fool to sell it for what it's 'worth' right now.

By doing things this way, I keep the car I've built up and looked after for years - and save a butt load of money. Cheaper tax, cheaper insurance, and I don't have to actually pay out for a Cooper S AFTER selling my car.

18% isn't much...there are 20% and smaller being run

So whats the eta on an engine, you building one or buying a second hand one and chucking it in?

Still can't see the option, doh!!!
Good luck Sam

Look forward to seeing the progress. Stealth look FTW too!
Good luck with the conversion sam, found anyone who is up for the job?

Oh yeah i know that, but usually as a mix of pulleys lol. never seen anything over 17 with just a pulley...
Should be a very cool project :thumbup1:

What chargecooler you thinking of using?

ETA will hopefully be very, very near to Le Mans - so late May/Mid-June :thumbup1:

Just waiting on an email

Not sure...I saw one that rkde posted up: The AVC unit Chargecooler Kits : AVT | www.chargecooler.co.uk | The UKs Leading Chargecooling Specialist, drag and race PWR Barrel Chargecoolers, charge cooler radiators, chargecooler tanks, chargecooler pumps, chargecooler pump, pipe kits, charge cooler accessor

Or, I'm trying to find someone who'll build me a slimline top mount chargecooler...if a standard chargecooler won't fit :thumbup1:
Sounds good dude, cant wait to see you do this. Why W2A rather than FMA2A? I assume your deleting the supercharger horns to run a cooper bonnet?
I can see that you liked my idea :D ...

Good luck with it!

FMIC is not stealth  Plus they're a lot better for track...which frankly I don't do enough of yet to warrant one.

I can see that you liked my idea :D ...
The idea I've been talking about for ages? And trying to find someone to make a chargecooler for me? That I posted up last year?

Proof or STFU?

^^ There's my proof. Read all the way down. Now STFU.
Can't wait to see this in the flesh when finished. Nice project :cools:
Hubie beat you both too it years ago with the turbo coopers in the states using the PWR cooiler hidden down the front of the engine

The PWR barrel will fit you just need to get rid of the IC horns

PWR will also do custom sizes for the radiators and IC units

PWR Performance Products - Custom Made Aluminium Radiator, Radiators, Oilcoolers, Intercoolers and Superchargers

Though about doing it with a reservoir in the boot.....
