Decided since I’m going for some Renault brembo on the front and my original rears were tired, coupled with the need for new handbrake cables it was the ideal time to upgrade to r56 rears. Wanted original mini calipers over cheap Chinese specials, most refurb places only worked on an exchange basis and wanted £180, so I hatched a plan..
Buy the cheapest genuine mini calipers I could find, £14 each delivered!
Order a full rebuild kit from Bigg Red £34
Then add the most expensive red paint I could find £54 for 300ml (but they said it’s a match for Brembo red!)

Strip the calipers completely down, degrease, rinse and repeat
Attack with wire brush on the trusty £29 die grinder
Tickle with a sand blaster in the hard to reach bits

You end up with:

Done really well to bring them back!

As above, perfect time to go for the larger JCW rears if you aren’t already, can then run 280mm disc vs 259mm.

You need jcw rears ....:censored:

aka bracket and disc’s
Al, so the actual calliper is the same?
Got some fresh discs to use so will run the 259mm first

Repainted and rebuilt

Ordered a few clips and bits from the dealers £110 WITH discount

Rear subframe is complete, new hand brake cables fitted and r56 undertrays fitted.

Ordered some finishing caps to go round the CAE shifter, interior is getting there, just need a half cage to finish it off!

Is the CAE shifter any good and worth the money?
Yes it’s really good, makes the connection to the car so much better than the stock shifter. One of the best mods I’ve done, not cheap but when is quality cheap?
