just done oil pressure test on my r53 cooper s the result are at idle its 2.0 bar and 3000 revs its 4.0 bar in the manual the 3000 revs in range 1.7 to 5.5 bar its the idle one that's seems low? the engine was at normal operating temperature . just wondered what pressure it should on idle ? as the oil light stays on

What's your pressure at idle? Recently rebuilt mine completely and when's its properly hot it's 1.2-1.4 bar, now on normal oil. 3000rpm is over 3 bar I think.

Edit: misread that you need a new switch.

if @3k the manual says pressure as low as 1.7bar is the lower end of spec, than having 2bar at idle would be. Normal running temperature for coolant is not for oil necessarily, I'd be doing around 30 miles to get hot oil, 20 minimum.
