Hi all,

I bought a 2010 Mini Cooper S at the weekend from a local dealer. I have a history of modifying cars to track spec (unfortunately no mechanical skills so ends up costing a bomb), cars include 360hp/812kg K20a powered Lotus Elise, Porsche 993 C2, Ford Escort Mexico Mk1, Clio Cup 172 track car (AST5200's, Cage etc etc), 276hp BMW e30 and a few more.

About 18 months ago due to young kids who are now 3 and 4 years old the missus persuaded me to get rid of the e30 and buy a BMW E46 M3 Convertible with SMG as i'd stopped doing trackdays, yawn boring plus it cost me a fortune to keep on the road for the 2000 miles i had it for.

Got shot of the e46 and have bought the car in the pictures, the plan was to drive it away at the weekend but when the dealer was doing the 82 point check they said the coilovers on the car had seen better days and they had ordered a new set, i asked them to show me what they had ordered and nearly threw up £300 'stance' coilovers, i told them to cancel the order and i'sd buy a set for them to fit and they could give me £300 towards the cost.

I was umming and ahhing about what to get and although not a popular choice i have gone with Gaz Golds with adjustable top mounts and helper springs, the reason i chose them is that my mate gets paid by them to travel to the race series that they have suspension in and set the suspension up. He got me a good deal and once the dealer have fitted them he'll set them up properly with geo and corner weight. This does however mean i won't have the car for 2 - 3 weeks as there is a lead time to get them built.

Unfortunately i'm not going to be able to cage it and remove the rear seats as once in a blue moon i might have to put the little horrors in the back.

The car has 59,000 miles on the clock, i'm not sure if this is bad or good but it had a new Turbo fitted at 51,000 miles.

I need to figure out how much this car has been modified, i have a reciept for a load of Miltek stuff and also a Stage 2 remap when it had the turbo done at Minitech in Essex. I emailed the chap and asked what a Stage 2 was but even though friendly enough in his reply he didn't seem to answer my question.

Plans for the immediate to mid term future

- Trackdays
- Fit the suspension
- Fit Autec Wizard 17 x 7.5 (If anyone wants the Fifteen52 TurboMacs let me know please, i have paid for Minitorque membership to advertise them on them but for some reason i haven't been authorised)
- Quaife or Wavetech diff.
- Maybe thicker ARB's
- Big brake kit
- Airtec intercooler
- Maybe some Recaro CS Sportster seats
- Coolerworx shifter

Any other suggestions you chaps have, happy to take advice as i'm new to the game.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to MT

Stage 2 should be:
Downpipe - decat or sports cat
Exhaust - looks like it has JCW on?
Intercooler
Upgraded spark plugs

I think that’s it, well once it’s mapped.
Looks good and I’d be interested on your thoughts of the coilovers!

Edit: looks like I can see a bigger intercooler there although can’t say for sure

I'm also interested to see how the coilovers are, bit of a left field choice but I figure they're used in so many race series they must be okay.

I think I'm going to have to get this on a rolling road and see what figures it's pushing out, if I have got a bigger intercooler that'll be a result.

I was looking at the brakes earlier, these look to be standard eh?

The brake callipers look stock but they aren’t the standard discs. I can’t say what brand and can’t help with the remap either. Sorry.

Quick update:

Gaz Gold Coilovers fitted.
Wheels changed to Autec Wizards
Tyres changed to Michelin PilotCup 2's

Also bought a Wavetrac diff but i'm going to do a trackday without first so i can appreciate the difference.

Had a bit of a nightmare with the car, it kept on having an Engine warning light come on, turned out it was air leaks on the boost pipes and a faulty diverter valve. the good news is the garage replaced the lifters and timing chain FOC. In the end i gave up with them and sent it to MiniTech in Southend who diagnosed the problem in minutes rather than the 5 weeks the dealer spent on it

Bit of a rubbish picture but you get the idea

Got a trackday booked on 20th May at Snetterton if anyone fancies it.

After this the diff, TTV lightweight flywheel and updated clutch will be going in
