Mini Roadster R59 2015 - Boot Latch not working unless soft-top is open

155 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Motkram
Strange one this, all of a sudden the boot latch isn't working either via the button under the tail gate or via the key fob, strangely both work if the soft top is in down (open) position.

Not sure if this is a coincidence but I was trying to open the boot via the key fob as my wife was closing the soft-top this afternoon and that’s when the problem started.

Any ideas, what's happened?

No idea
but I have had random issues with the boot spoiler, sorted by lube
occasionally key fob batteries can cause random car issues
lube everything and try battery disconnect

I'll try the battery disconnect, definitely not key fob batteries and latch is pretty much well lubed.
Very strange that with roof up there's absolutely no life then with roof down both latch button and key fob work fine.
I think it’s linked to this which has started this morning, the roof is working fine, opening and closing perfectly but the Red warning roof not locked properly sign is flashing and beeping continuously. I have tried opening and closing the roof and cleaning the latches, pushing down on the roof as it locks to much sure its locking in properly but stilling the warning. The beeping noise is driving me crazy, any ideas please ? someone said maybe a sensor failure but I can’t seem to locate where the sensor would be.
Many thanks :)
I have no idea about the Mini's roof but in a different car I would suspect a broken microswitch or connection to the switch.

I had a similar kind of problem on a 5 series Tourer i bought years ago with the boot lid misbehaving, it wouldn't power shut unless the glass bit was popped open and the parcel shelf wouldn't automatically lower.

I couldn't live with it like that so started having a dig, a mouse had been at the loom along by the boot latch!

An hour later with a soldering iron and a few bits of wire it was fixed. Never found the mouse though..

Not saying you have a rodent problem but if it were mine I'd start pulling some trim off and checking all the latches/catches.
