Mini Cooper S JCW Gearbox Oil
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if someone can help me out here with the Gearbox Oil.
My car is now done 64k and I wanted to replace the gearbox oil.
Went to Mini Dealer and they were useless they don't know what oil is inside the gearbox!
and they wanted £150 to replace the gearbox oil even though its about 20 minutes job
Anyway can someone tell me what Oil please the car gearbox uses ?

I want to put BMW oil in there any ideas what they use?
Why? I think from memory its Texaco MT-90 or something or other. Not easy to get hold of which is why people use different brands. As long as its the same GL rating (GL4) and viscosity its fine. Hence why i suggested Redline MTL as a lot of people use it including me and love it.

I know if you have the dif like my JCW you need to put MTF 94 in. BMW only sell this in 5 gallon units and it costs a fortune from them. Do what I did ad go to your local LandRover dealer, they use it for the old freelander or something. 1Lt container about £7. Part number is STC 9158. because its red and noticeably improved the cooper's midlandsHow can you love a tranny oil haha.
P.S regarding the Texaco MTF-94, I've been running the redline stuff with LSD with no problems. i don't get the chewbacca sounds when pulling away when cold anymore
so any feedback on before and after change,

I've got it in my 6spd too. Didn't really notice much difference in this one compared to the Midlands, not quite as stiff during the colder months (as you know 1st to 2nd can be a bastard in the winter) and I don't get the gearbox chatter I was getting with the stock fluid but overall not much improvement.
IMO I would say keep the stock stuff in the 6spd's as its quality stuff but if its difficult to get hold of the stock texaco stuff or too expensive any of the other MTF's are good (Redline MTL, Castrol SMX-S etc).

I have used both Red Line MTL and MT90, MTL was very smooth on cold starts but could feel it getting too hot after long spirited drives, the MT90 takes a few minutes to warm up and then it's perfect, no signs of overheating. This time i am going to to run a 50/50 mix of MT90/MTL.
