Miles per tank??

Hi All,

I'm new to the MINI scene and am looking at making my 02 One a little better.

I've done a few miles but am suprised to find that I am only getting 300 miles per tank of fuel. Is this normal or is my car running bad??? It feels OK to drive and has standard 15" alloys and no Mod's, yet!

I hope this has not been done before and appologies if it has. I looked through and did a search but found nothing.

Thanks for any response in this subject and any help it getting my MPG better.

I've just done the front bushes and the car rides better, I love driving it!!!

300 miles is quite good! Most i ever got out my cooper was 320 miles motorway driving!

Dont even ask about the cooper s fuel consumption:blush:
REALLY, 300 miles is good, for a 1.6???

Hmmmmm, I might have to work faster on getting my classic Mini back on the road.
mines about the same, i thought i had worked it out wrong!! i think i might even get a bit less. Its a fucking joke. Thats why i bought a bike, 100mpg FTW :D
It's not quite the 40 MPG that I was told I would get in the book!!!!!
if you drive really carefully you can get more! i usually got 320 to a tank before filling
I get just under 300 In my GP :D hehe. But i have a weird freak engine i think.

But yeah, they are really bad for consumption on city driving, they just eat fuel.
Got ~340 when my S JCW210 was completely stock - running 200whp it was around 300miles to a tank...

If I had a one I would want more miles than a tuned S...
Yep 300 - 320 is the norm, stick cruise control on and take it easy and the best I did with a 210JCW with 17% pulley and cam was 420 and could have done more but I hit traffic and couldn't risk it
330 normally with a mix of ragging and commuting
It is mad how a tuned MCS can get more mpg than a one, I know its down to the driver too etc... but still! :p
You can get 40+ but that will only be on the motorway, cruising at about 60mph. 300 miles sounds fine if it's combined urban and cruising. Driving around London it drops well below that :(

It's because it has no torque, you have to wring it's neck to make any progress. They gave it a 1.6 engine but it behaves more like a 1.4 shit box. Getting a Bluefin or custom remap should give you more miles to a tank because you don't need to use so much of the rev range anymore. Or you can get the same number of miles but make quicker progress. if you're me you just cane it everywhere and wonder why you spend half your life in petrol stations.
What would cause extremely low consumption if there’s no leak?

Extreme, like only 120 miles to a tank extreme?
Worst (but most fun) I got was ~185 miles from a tank... :sneaky2: That was hammering around everywhere though... so to get really bad you need a damn heavy right foot :p

or broken engine bits to beat my 110 miles

I don't really get much more than this on day to day driving  mostly in town though. Most I've got out of my R53 is 260 miles

Not sure what to say really - mine must have just been good :) Town miles kills mpg of course... mine was always a good mix of motorway and town...
as per daves post, ive just averaged 38 today with some town when cold, then motorway, then town. reversed in the afternoon on the way home. Short cold journeys are the killer. When doing like 60 on the motorway its like 45 mpg but i tend to do 70 at about 40mpg in sixth. Doing 30-40 for long stretches it averages like 50mpg in fifth gear, but of course in town you hit traffic lights.

If i accelerate hard (not like racing) i get like 30mpg overall so still not bad.

This is Keanos old JCW 201whp btw

anyone know of any mods that will increase mpg further?
