Night and day difference over the standard box Nigel?
I wouldn't say night and day but certainly noticeable.

The LSD makes a difference (but not as much as the Quaife does in my Focus ST). The lower ratios mean changing gear earlier, but give better acceleration.

Worth doing when you are changing the clutch as the gearbox is out. You can get a decent BKL box for under £300.00.

I’m curious on 2 things which I now “have” to do for the wife’s R53 Leccy blue.
Steering wheel with controls, we don’t have that although it’s pre-facelift 2004. And the heating controls? Totally different again, is that a fit / swap over without issue? Or was it a pack fitted from
the factory so we missed the boat now?
Although looking at it, we don’t have AC 😬

Steering wheel swap is easy but if you don't have the controls on the wheel you cannot add them just by changing the wheel. Similar story for the heating controls.

Still worth swapping a two spoke for a three spoke steering wheel even if you don't have controls.
