It’s certainly quicker, just not had much chance to use it I guess really. The effect is masked a little bit too by 1320’s loan car being really quite in-your-face so going back to my civilised standard car isn’t quite as exciting. Great bang for buck though

This looks like a really tidy example, and your efforts in sprucing it up are to be recognised! A car in this condition deserves to be looked after and kept OEM. Can't say I'd fit the RS door pulls and I also think the chrome suits it, with the black car you need a bit of highlight to contrast. The only thing I would maybe change are the chrome mirrors. Keep your eyes out for some JCW bits, the steering wheel is absolutely lovely to use but rare as hens teeth.
I’ve bought some used door releases to use so can go back to standard if I do fit the door pulls. Likewise the chrome, am only toning down bits that can be put back to standard. Am on the lookout for some door mirror caps 👍

Bugger! My little mini mate has (I think), eaten another power steering pump this morning. If so, that will be a 3rd pump in about 6months. Last one fitted 6weeks ago.

1st pump, original, old age, fair enough.
2nd pump, put it down to a rogue bad part
3rd pump..... bugger, am suspicious now!

Is booked in at a local specialist, who have mentioned it may be the cooling fan has packed up, so pumps are burning out. Sounds like a good lead to me, and perhaps something the village mechanic may have missed.

Mate thats bad luck that 😭

As you'll agree unfortunately despite their age they are fairly complicated little cars (dont think too many cars its size had EPAS back then). If only they'd used a brushless motor 😩

If its any consolation I think mine isnt that long for this world either, intermittently cuts out but thankfully only when stationary. Gonna get it opened up and the carbon cleaned out....hoping that might give it a new lease of life....though have also noticed the pentosin in it isnt green anymore.....just hoping its not anything too untoward......is funny because its not at all noisy either 😂

Here we go then, back on the road!
Went to fosse-way garage, only 5mins from home, and a very nice experience.

New pump on, double checked for any route cause and nothing found, so will see how we get on.

I had my number one mini fan, and mini crew chief come with me to collect the car....
Best.... Day..... Ever!!!!

Right, this could turn out to be the shortest time I own a car before falling out with it....

PAS pump is one month old....

woke up this morning to be told that “your alarm was going off really weakly in the night, and car was making a whirring pump noise”.... I’m putting 2+2 together and expecting to go out in a bit and find a flat battery, and another knackered PAS pump

Not another one surely! Something must be causing these premature failures, can't be right for one person to experience that many duff units.

I know! Must be something going on. Can’t bring myself to go and investigate yet, so it’s sat outside in the rain in disgrace

Mate sure its something youve covered already, but has the PAS fan been confirmed as working/replaced with the pump?

It would make sense if the fan wasnt working properly/coming on at all that the pump would cook be it new or not. Definitely worth looking into if not confirmed 👍👍

I was doubly clear to ask that question last time it failed, at a local specialist, and was told that yes it is. Am now going to have to be less lazy, stop treating it like a modern/daily car, and do some looking for myself, so will double check

Right, bloody thing.
Recharged battery with it disconnected...
Reconnected battery (big spark at the terminal, bad sign I thought, somethings drawing current!!)

Fan noise started straight away.... hoped against hope it was the auxiliary cooling fan as didn’t sound as loud as PAS pump..... but no luck! Keyed off, noise still there, and clearly power assistance at the wheel still.... bollocks!

Grumpily, I then went full retard....
Disconnected the battery, closed the boot, clunk.

..... idiot.... that boot switch won’t work with the battery disconnected will it!

fortunately one of the other toys is now taxed, and ready to take over daily duties

There's a boot release under the back seat just in case you didn't know!

Hope you get the PAS sorted soon, sounds like a wiring/electrical issue maybe the wiring to the pump has frayed or something?

As Carl has said you should have a release under the rear seat, can scratch your hands on the seat base though so lift it up properly.

Failing that you can hook the battery up to the positive terminal and an earth in the engine bay 👍🏽
