Right I know Jayxx83 has done this And with a few texts I understand it's not a difficult mod to do and costing £20 from BMW seems good value, but has anyone else do this and can they do a step by step guide
i did this, with bulbs from ultraleds.co.uk..very similar to the e90 look
it was really simple - pull out the two covers from one side using a flat blade screwdriver, replace the bulbs and replace the covers..
my covers were broken so I just bought two new ones for a few £ from the dealer..be careful when prying them out as the clips are quite fragile..
that was it..twist the bulbs so that they reflect as u want them too (since they are led and bulbs only on one side). they used to flicker a few times when locking and unlocking the car, but that was about it.
hmmm i like the idea of the actual look E90 lights, one of the clips on my CCd boot handle has a broken clip so the idea of the e90 lights is great has i can replace the actul clips
Had mine on for nearly 3 years now and no problem. The lighting coverage is nice and even as the reflectors are designed for the LEDs. Bit OCD I know but adds to the overall look lol.
You need to cut a lot out of the stock plinth. You also need the E90 connecting pins. Cut your stock wires, connect the new wires and silicone the new units into place. It is an extremely tight fit and you can just get them flush. The connectors will bend slightly when flush but just make sure it's all soldered up tight and black taped up.
Ive got LED number plate bulbs on my R53 MCS....eBay bargin a few years ago for my old E46 and was a simple straight swap into the Mini! They are really nice and bright (E90 lookalike) LEDs. The only thing i had to do was fit a small resistor across ONE of the bulbs to stop the LED flicker when powers off! SIMPLES!
I just got a new painted boot handle to replace my chrome one and I thought I might stick come LED's in while it is off. I have started to hack away (literally I dont have a dremal) and I have got them to fit flush. The thing it the plug is touching the top of the handle. I havent got the connectors yet so I dont know how big they are but I cannot see them fitting. Here are some pics: I've took the plastic away until I have seen the colour plastic of the rear.
Received the repair wiring kit today. There are four single stranded wires. And two plugs. Obviously the plugs go into the LED unit. There are four wires on each of the original halogen connectors. Which ones do the two new cables connect to and did you just leave the other two disconnected?
