Hello,

Finally found the time to open the engine of my 100k miles R53 post lift track toy and, besides finding a broken value asthe root of the issue of my P0300 code - engine misfiring and ASC light issue, I saw the camshaft is a bit worn on the cylinder 3 area.

I've been advised to change it by a mechanic (not by one that will expect to gain any business from me, ie not trying to make money out of it), and also said to check the cylinder as it is a common issue with this model that oil carries too much bits and particules that overflow from a strainer that is meant to filter them on the sump pan area, and this can result on the camshaft wearing out.

Sorry I understand that explanation sound wissy wassy but, regardless of that, any opinion on changing the camshaft because of the wear and root of it?

And since we are on the topic, what do you recommend to clean the cylinder a bit? I don't think I want to remove all valves from the spring, just to clean the bottom of the head and maybe the valve seats as much as I can. Brake cleaner and soft scourer?

Thanks!

Is this camshaft standard (oem)? They tend to loose there hardened coating and i have seen a few on here witht he same problem. Fit a new replacement camshaft, something like a newman ph2. @CarsOrBikes is a supplier for the Newman camshaft.
