Just took it for a short drive, the coilovers aren’t as bad as I thought they’d be to be fair, a touch firmer than the teins but not horrendous, it is lower though as the bumper scrapes the kerb backing it into the drive something it didn’t do with the teins, not messing about adjusting up them though

Kind of tempted to stick it on eBay for a grand and see what happens!

Back to the skoda, bass amp fitted using the piggyback fuse holder method I described in the previous page, rear view camera up and running without static (thank god as i for the life of me can’t reverse this car!) the feed from the reverse light was causing the screen to go fuzzy when the engine was running, fed it from the head unit reverse cable instead and all good

bargain of the day though from the local car boot, a Toyota branded Thule aero bar roof rack with roof rail clamping feet, went straight on with no messing…..


an absolute steal at £5!

As a further aside to this car, my wife’s Touareg, as expected, failed it’s MOT today needing a fair bit of work doing, 2 tyres, rear pads, rear suspension arms, it’s got an oil leak and using a lot of oil, the airbag light is also on, probably about £700 worth of parts and labour



She’s agreed to call it quits and use the skoda for the time and I’ll use the R53 until she sees a 4x4 she likes, I’ll put the Touareg on eBay as spares or repairs and get what I can for it, had it 2 1/2 years and the only expense we’ve really had was a spring for the last MOT and a couple of tyres so can’t complain really given I only paid £2k for it

Quick little job, swapped the chrome boot handle trim for a black one View attachment 103702 View attachment 103703 Having had a look in google I’m thinking for getting the chrome light trims front and back and grille outer painted the same colour as the body as Millsy had/has on his R56, want to move away from black surrounds on this one as I see a lot of them about
i have this car now!!

Hope you look after it and it’s a good car for you, as you can see it’s had its moments over the time I had it, mainly because if things I changed on it, seemed to eat wheel bearings after I put the 18s in it and carried by heavy electric bike on the roof etc!

in all it was a good little car for me, as Keithy says it seems to have been ‘played with’ before I got it and I had to fit a new DPF and exhaust to get it through the MOT as it had been tampered with but it flew through once i did it

You asked in the messages why I sold it, basically it broke down on the M6 in cumbria and at 11pm in the rain sat in the hard shoulder waiting for the recovery company is decided I’d had enough and needed a bigger car, bought a skoda estate car the next day, turned out it was just the £18 crank position sensor!

I did kind of regret jumping the gun with the skoda after it was repaired thinking I should have kept it but having had it a while now I’m glad i did swap just for the comfort on the motorway

It always sounded like a good little car really, hope it's good to you (y)

I'm surprised how comfy the cars are really, unless the 2nd gens are worse than the R53? My stock seats were pretty good. It's only the non-telescopic steering wheel that annoyed me comfort-wise. Maybe I didn't do enough long journeys in it!

The comfort comparison between the modded R53 and standard R56 was chalk and cheese, felt like a totally different more refined car, putting the 18s and coilovers on obviously changed that making them feel a lot closer in the comfort stakes
