The Cars History

Bought in June '07 with around 20k on the clock and nicely run in, Domo was ready... the plan was to make JCW's breakfast fodder, EP3's lunch and 330i's dinner! :w00t:

Okay, so after some research and google'ing for the nearest mini "specialist" it was time for some more go. I'd previously fitted an alta panel filter to my stock airbox and the the shopping list was:

#Alta 15% Pulley, iridium plugs & belt
#EBC Disks & GreenShit Pads

I soon realised "MiniSpeed" was not the company for me, after insulting my intelligence, attempts to forcefeed me a bluefin map (even wrote on my receipt "Customer refused remap" so they wouldn't warrant any problems) and later discovering fitting the wrong plugs non iridium (NKG BKR7EVX) Plugs I decided to look for other companies.

A run at Surrey RR gave a modest 167whp/201.8 bhp and 180ft/lbs peak torque at 4400rpm after 3 runs . This is where I discovered 1320Mini, under the name of 1320Autos back then. There was this rather mean looking red Mini one with a scoop and a very stock looking engine bay, not much money spent gave everyone a shock with 241.8 bhp & 210 ft lbs...

When the phrase "Its not how much you spend but how well you spend it" was uttered "Works Eater" phase 2 was ready to go :thumbup1:

I then proceeded to ditch the runcraps for some Goodyear Eagle GSD-3 loving in a 215/40/17 flavour, huge improvement in road holding.

Next on the list was to get rid of the god awful two spoke wheel that must have come off some kind of ocean liner and replace with a sportier facelift jobbie. Fleebay FTW.

After that I managed to find a decent GP TMIC on ebay for £250... easy to fit and after spirited drive where afterward, the old inter-cooler would pretty much melt the skin off my hand it was just warm to the touch. I then had Cooper Reading Mini flash me with the 2005 R53 Software to get rid of the yo-yo.

March 2008 - Enter 1320 Autos/Mini

#JCW/M Air Box & ITG Filter
#JCW 380cc Injectors
#JCW Cat-back Exhaust (without kink)
#1320 NGK Spark Plugs

So I managed to get some 380cc JCW injectors and a JCW Intake off a US seller on ebay for a nice price, when it arrived I promptly pulled out all the vacuum, electrics, filter, bung and flap from the intake so I was left with just an airbox with two extra air intakes from the cowl and an ITG.

Back in the day when it was just Paul and Chris you could book 1320 at the weekend...

So first off was the health check and leak down and compression tests showed a strong engine so I was happy then fitted the above. :thumbup1:

We managed a very respectable 199 whp, Chris had some serious determination to break the 200whp barrier but it just wasn't happening so finished up with a corrected 235.4 BHP (199.7 WHP) @7,100RPM & 180ft/lbs Torque @4800RPM.

I then finished this off with a JCW catback.

After that I had the Superflex bushes fitted and some Mintex 1144s to replace the shockingly bad GreenShitStuff pads, it definitely improved Domo's table manners thats for sure

Okay after losing all boost and the suspect bypass valve diagnosed I was booked in at 1320 to have it fixed, Janny Mani and a dyno. If your car feels underpowered/losing boost get this checked...

Had the Janspeed fitted and loved it at first but soon after fell out of love with the sound, oh... it blew the clutch on the dyno too... arse. So I had the Clutchmasters FX200 Fitted with a Aluminium Flywheel, the results of Janspeed & Clutch sounded something like this...

2009...

Okay so after that something went wrong with my FX200 (it wasn't up to the job so go for FX400 instead if you change your clutch) so I decided to try an alternative. The Helix Group N Organic and also had the Janspeed manifold replaced with stock (yes I know!!) as it was too drony for me...

Then things went a bit quiet due to limited funds, few fixes and services here and there but no major changes roll on 2010...

2010 - The End of Wheel-gap is Nigh...

Okay so I decided the get rid of my S-spokes for something light but due to limited funds they have to be a temporary el' cheapo solution so Alex and his ex-cooper challenge R81's to the rescue. But after having enough wheel-gap to rival even Dave's (Keano) gaping hole (sorry couldn't resist!) the choice was simple either it's lowered or killed with fire!

I needed to sort it so springs were the order of the day, best I could afford was some second hand Eibach's so not really that low...

Still, I was moderately happy with the results as a temporary solution...

September 2010 - New Torque

Thanks to Thomas "Vader" Barnes of 1320mini Domo now had a butt load of extra torque...

#Newman Camshaft & Mynes Tune (click to read more)

October 2010 - Bigger is better

Mynes tune is now better, stronger and safer after the following:

#Bosch 550cc Injectors (click to read more)

And at the time made record breaking stock head result! (edit. Well it was back then, now 226whp+)

October 2010 - Buddy Club Lovin'l

Despite my obsession and love affair with the with R81 Imola 15's they just don't have enough clearance for my choice of brakes so they had to go to a loving home. I tend to love most things Japanese and just how I don't own a Yellow Integra DC2 is beyond comprehension.

I decided to go for my default Forza Motosport 3 wheel, the Buddy Club P1 Racing SF but in Yellow/black challenge 16x7.0 ET42 flavour. Will take some getting used to I think and the car needs some changes to properly work but I love them. Never seen them on a Mini either I suspect JDM lovers all over the world are now crying into their Ramen...

#16x7.0 ET42 Buddy Club P1 SF Challenge (click to read more)

Yes this car is gonna end up JDM raped!

December 2010 - Moar!!

#Hotchkis Competition 25mm Rear ARB "Man setting"
#17% KMT Pulley & Belt
#Mynes retweak & dyno

Alas the Bilstiens didn't make it through our fantastic December weather and for all I know are stuck in Germany, might actually be a blessing in desguise as with all the salt, grit and crap on the roads it probably wouldn't do them any good really..... (read more)

January 2011 - Coils / MOAR Noise!!

#Bilstein B14 PSS (click to read more)

Bilsteins were fitted and they are a huge improvement over stock dampers and springs but the car just feels much more of an animal while remaining composed and relatively comfortable for the daily commute. Although I have to admit I was expecting more of a drop from this kit any more would probably be useless where I go driving!

Full review of these can be found here

#Decat & Dyno Run (click to read more)

Moar noise was required, usually I pussy out with stuff like this but if the note sounds good I can deal with noise, drone I can't though. Thankfully this is liveable when driving normally, "fuckmethatsloud" when giving it the beans and sounds bloody purposeful!

Here is a drive by comparision of a decatted stock vs decatted jcw both with aftermarket headers...

... and a dyno run....

#Batou Bronze™ (click to read more)

Got bored and started to dislike the yellow and black so fancied a little change....

# <3 Buckets
Comfy, warm, snug and make the handling "feel better" buckets should be standard on every car... would cure obesity and reduce accidents

August 2011 - It Broke

Full details can be read here...

#It Broke (click to read more)

2012 - The Apocalypse.

Time to go balls deep on the engine after breaking a piston ring and cracks in the original head casting causing a misfire/failure...

#Neil Roper Ported & Polished Big Valve Head
#G&S Enlarged Inlet/Exhaust Valves
#HKS Decked & Bored Block
#Wössner Oversize Forged Pistons
#ARP Rod & Head bolts
#Mahle Motorsport Bearings
#Brand new Teflon M45 Supercharger with 13.20% KMT Pulley
#CatCam
#Mocal Oil Cooler

June - 2012 - OH HERRO 230WHP CRUB!

So the car finished up with strong result of [email protected] with just 13psi of boost on the modest 13.20% pulley. Great job by Thomas and 1320 MINI.

After that I fitted some new aggressive looking boots and a set of second hand KW Clubsports with KW Topmounts, this allowed me to dial in some proper camber :cools:

Haven't yet had it re-dyno'd... will do at some point though. Probably when its mapped/cammed.

Yea I do need to space them out, need to be on the cheap but I understand if you have to go for spacers you have to buy good ones right??

Nice mate!

Whats the deal with the 2005 software you had flashed, Im guessing onto the cars ecu?

Can dealerships do this and any idea how much? The yo-yo effect is annoying me especially coming on and off throttle when cornering

Lol ::getcoat:: Too loud for where I live at the moment and was a little attention grabbing for my liking. Nope still has the precat, will enquire about this at some point. Is it east to do?

Just went into Cooper Reading Mini said my car yo-yo's and I've heard that the 2005 ECU software map solves it. Can you flash it. Cost me £36 iirc.

Yo-yo is better but still not 100%... hopefully be sorted with a proper tune.
Ive sent you a PM matey ;) The plans sound good :thumbup1: Did you add your own tag.... ??

Cheers mate, I bought a new BPV as I heard that was some of the cause of the yo-yo effect aswell, possibly between opening and shutting off the throttle, I may lubricate the spring so it doesnt stick, if thats possible anyway

I'm going to call into my local dealers on my way home from work and see what they can do about the software upgrade, cheers mate
Nice write up Batou and lovely looking Mini.... like what you've done with it since buying it and future plans sound good mate :D
