Aftermarket wheel Boss to Horn query

Hi guys

I've done alot of research but I'm still not 100% on the horn wiring when fitting an aftermarket wheel.

I've seen some threads that say you can just chop off the horn wires and plug from an old wheel and plug them in to the slip ring terminal slot and then fit the boss over the whole lot but then I've also seen a couple of how to's where they essentially demolished that plug (because it sits proud of the slip ring surface) and did some more intricate wiring.

I also wondered about the airbag resistor/s , I've seen one thread where the guy fitted two 3.9 resistors in the yellow plug behind the column cowling. I've seen many threads where people say to leave those plugged in and just fit the one 2.1 resistor into the green plug.

Is there a preferred brand for the boss kit?

I just want to make it as tidy as possible and ideally not damage anything.😂

Thanks everyone

I last fitted one a while back but have never broken or smashed any connectors, that's just cannibalism by people let loose with tools. The boss if I recall came with one resistor and I added another fused 3.9 ohm one from ebay. The only part that sat proud was the pin that the contact spiral has protruding which doesn't quite sit all the way into the hole in the boss, so a minimal couple of mm was trimmed off this, you don't want it compressed when the boss is tightened. Then it is preserved to reinstall the steering wheel later. Be careful removing the airbag connectors, easily broken with ham fisted yanking, I don't think these can be bought. Can't remember what boss kit it was, just something from tweeks going under a Sabelt wheel iirc. I don't remember there being anything technical about the horn wiring either, couple of simple terminals. All OEM plugs can be saved anyway if removing the pins properly, just note the wire sizes for new pins all available from BMW, and if any pins are cut off then just immediately buy the replacements and store with the wheel perhaps, never being caught out etc. As for other more intricate wiring I don't know. Some might elect to code out the airbag, the potential issue there is the risk or temptation to not restore it when later selling the car to someone without their knowledge or understanding which can have some potentially serious implications, I believe why main dealers don't do it when requested.

one of the yellow ones made already, it was a customers car so I'd only use fused
