Yeah I've seen another post suggesting that the only difference with the R56 mirror is the different frequency locking module and that swapping them over is the only additional step...though of course means having to disect the mirror.
On NAM lots of people have put the homelink mirrors with auto dim in their facelifts that had no mirror functionality before and was all plug and play too so the confidence level is there (I doubt the wiring on NA cars is that different if any to ours in terms of interior). I also have a funny feeling that back then the auto dim mirror was available as a standalone option so betting the wiring was there to ease installation at the factory.
Keeping my fingers crossed (for us both) it works mate, sure it will.
Genuinely dont worry too much about the mirror marking. If you happen to have a solid but small trim tool that might do the job but I just used a small flat blade electrical screwdriver and it was fine. All it does is leave v small ridges on the edges of the plastic where the two pieces meet.. mainly from the minor levering you have to do to pop the clips. If you take your time and are careful the residual marking is little to none.
I'm massively OCD and it hasnt bothered me just thought it was a point worth mentioning to save anyone particularly hamfisted getting upset that they'd buggered their mirror housing by levering that crap out of it😂 ....It's really nothing at all and nothing you would notice so long as you go slow and careful
