    Dash uprights

So I've now seen 2 r53's with chopped dash uprights so they end in line with the switch controls. Are they purely decorative or do they actually support something?

They cover up the screws that hold in the heater, radio and switch panels

What have the people done about the space at the bottom where the pillars fit?

Seen r56 centre consoles fitted in place of the r53. This gets rid of the holes where the pillars locate.
