    Is MINI the new Porsche??

Two brands I love for their pursuit of speed and driving purity

The two brands may seem far apart but they are very much alike

I had a new boxster until I purchased my R56 and they are the only two cars I would have now. I know that sounds narrow minded but having driven lots of different cars from other manufacturers I can quite honestly say if I don't own a mini I'll be driving a Porsche and vice versa

Given I have driven both the 911 and own a JCW

I would say the same its hard to describe exactly but they offer virtually the same driving pleasure but been manufactured in very different ways

Everyone has their choices in car preference

Its either an 911, 1M Coupe or another JCW for my 2nd car

As a past owner of a 911 & Audi UR Quattro and the wifes R53 - the 911 is definately my best closely followed by the UR Quattro - the 911 is, in my opinion, not really comparible with a Mini as they are completely different cars.

The 911 up keep is very heavy on the pocket, average specialists prices for parts/service will empty your pockets very quickly, the following is only my cost for the 911 which was a while ago and is also area specific, from memory the price of parts only, not fitting was - clutch 1600, brake pads front 180, brake pads rear 90, discs front 250, discs rear 130, I think a Millteck is just over 2000 etc etc

How ever I will say that the Mini is a very capable car that is very affordable for what it does and on the value front I would say that the Mini is a league of its own and not really comparible with many Porsches....but thats just my opinion having own/owned both.

I don't get the obsession with Porsche's. There was a head to head marketing video some time again with MINI vs Porsche, the MINI lost.

I have both, I use my R53 JCW for the 100 mile daily commute along A/B roads (ive done 90K in that now) and I use my 996 C4S for fridays and the weekend or if the weather is bad enough to need 4wd.

Both cars are completely different to drive but they are both great fun, have iconic status and a cult following. What more could you need?

I'm not sure you can compare them in anyway except that, with VAG buying Porsche, they are both now sub-brands within a larger car manufacturer. You could say just as equally ask "Is MINI the new Rolls Royce?" or "Is MINI the new Lamborghini?"
The only similarity I see with Porsche is that they both MINI and Porsche make ugly oversized 4x4s that dilute the brand but make a lot of money to keep them going but while Porsche used the money from Cayenne buyers to make the 991, MINI used Countryman money to make the F56!

As i stated in the blog

    I showcased all the similarities

Two brands who went about the same thing in different ways

MINI & Porsche I have every driving feel to every car out there but both are very much iconic
