    Rattle from the rear suspension

After lowering the car my MINI has produced a knocking sound from the rear suspension(?). I'm not alone with this problem as we have been discussing about this in my project topic. The knocking sound can be heard almost all the time when driving on uneven surfaces, but it is worst when driving on stone pavement/road.

I'm almost sure it is something related to the top mount, drop links or anti-roll bar. I have made sure everything is tight and fitted like they are supposed to be fitted.

    To narrow things down:
    - Can I drive without the rear anti-roll bar?
    - How hard is it to remove the anti-roll bar?

    - Can I drive without the rear drop links?

Will one of the above cause more knocking sounds from the suspension?

Sounds like the rear top mounts. Had this on mine with coilovers, seems as though they just dont like it when the suspension is stiffend up.

I think I read somewhere that you were going to change the orange rubber bushes to some poly ones, did you do this?

as i said on your project thread i am suffering from exactly the same symptoms. Everything is tight but still rattles!

Would be interesting if the poly bushes solves things...

And we are not the only ones; a quick search reveals many almost identical threads, but not a direct answer to the problem. Has anyone solved this?

Mine does it and I'm on bone stock suspension and no rear ARB. Top mounts aren't loose.

I reckon it could be the rear trailing arm bushes are knackered or the shock top mount bush knackered.

I sorted mine by adding a washer to the top mount stack. Idea being that it took up any slack from the rubber bush having been compressed. If that didn't work I was going to get some solid replacements made out of aluminium.

Do you have a pic at all of where you're referring to?

    +1

I can also add that turning the steering wheel from left to right very quickly doesn't make this knocking sound. Only driving on uneven surfaces at low speed.

So no point for me to remove the anti-roll bar then, thanks.

No, I ended up chopping the mini in before got round to doing it.
