    New to Minitorque - Hi!

    Afternoon all

I'm totally new here. I've just sold my diseasal commuter MK V Golf today (transcation pending...) and looking to get into MINI ownership!

I've massively cut down my commute to work so it's <20 miles round trip now, so no need for a diesel tractor anymore, time to have some fun.

That being said, I'm now on the look out for a facelift R53 Cooper S

    Will

Welcome. So if you're not on the lookout for a FL R53 what are you after? Pre FL, R56 N14/N18 etc... there are so many variations so pick your weapon & then those in the know can point you in the direction you need to go. Things to watch out for, good mods etc...

That said you've not even mentioned Coilovers on the shopping list so be ready for some abuse! It's all good banter though & you'll soon realise that Coilovers is the MT way

    Well that's embarrassing...
it should have said "That being said, I'm now on the look out for a facelift R53 Cooper S" - edited to make sense now, woops.

The Golf is gone and the money is in the bank, so where's best to start looking for a well looked after R53 FL Cooper S?

    Hahaha

I've had my R53 for over 8yrs so shopping for one isn't my forte. Parts yes but cars no. If you get a chance speak to Sam (Mini Turbo) as he's one very good car shopper & seems to find absolute gems.

Looking at facelift R53s then - I'm currently looking at an 05 JCW car. How are they for reliability? Using the good old internet I'm getting some mixed reviews!
Then I thought "let's just ask the guys who own them!"

    What can you tell me?

It will break eventually, Maffa up there ^ is on his 6th engine, but they're not all that bad.

They all piss oil out of every orifice, so checking and topping up is a must, even daily til you know what your car is like.

Even the youngest are 12 years old though, so anything rubber will need attention soon if its not already been swapped out...

Oh and coilovers are a must, springs, spotlights, plastidip and vinyl is aids...

Welcome to MT, where thick skin and a fat wallet are mandatory...

my pre-fl R53 is 15 years old this year. 111k miles and hasn't missed a beat. That being said, it will be booked into 1320 for a health check then, coilovers and tyres.

    Welcome.

    coilovers...
