czar, what's your opinion on the resonator delete? Why should we do it? What are the REAL world gains? And is it worthwile on a stock car?

Hello Jon,

In my opinion it is a modification that has a trade off on a stock R55/R56/R57 Equiped with a stock intercooler, the cooling efficency of the stock intercooler versus the removal of the stock resonator/restrictor and replace with the resonator/restrictor delete hose, if/when you remove the stock resonator/restrictor hose you loose cooling efficency of the intercooler but gain with an unrestricted air flow, which in turn is felt as a positive from having higher velocity air speed passing through the stock intercooler, (less cooling efficency due to high velocity air speed) and therfore retaing most of the initial positive boost all the way to the throttle butterfly, some people see this as a gain, when infact all that has happened is the stock intercooler has lost efficency, and could be replaced with a length of tube!
However when a larger than stock intercooler is fitted, then we have achieved in slowing the air speed down as we have increased volume mass! Now the resonator delete hose will be of more benefit, in keeping up the positive air speed into the intercooler, and the larger volume mass will now do the same effect as the stock setup, slowing the air speed down! A good intercooler will have good cooling efficency, as well as a low positive pressure drop (restriction) hence you will gain from the fitment of a larger volume mass intercooler with a resonator delete hose.
With that said it is now a personal choice!

Surely the effect is not that drastic! Are you suggesting with the resonator delete hose fitted that the stock FMIC provides zero cooling capability?!

No not at all, it wont be that dramatic, I am just pointing out that the faster you push air through the intercooler, the less time the air spends in the intercooler being cooled.
