Dave Morgan made a good point the Americas my cam your cam etc thread.

So what do people actually want from their cars:

A nice balance of an engine ? Good solid power ? High revving race engines ? a properly set up chassis ? Nice looks and some decent power ? A daily beater thats been nicely tweaked ?

How much would you be willing to spend ? some of us havent spent much and have done some nice tweaks.

Where would you go to have it done, do the easier installs and home then go for a set up, or do as much as possible or take your credit card to a tuner and say do your best?

After a good month without having my mcs after failing to top up the oil.. (blowing the engine ) I finally pick up my baby from 1320 next wednesday the 8th.

Although i shall be missing my current ride.. the hothatch that is, the smart car :blushing:

Having to search for a new engine which took weeks and a high phone bill, managed to find an 04 engine with 42k on the clock for £760 I didn't think that was too bad! Tom said the engine looked mint and the leak down tests ran smoothly. He's been such a great help and such an easy guy to speak to, being honest and reassuring with his best opinions at hand, I feel its in the safest hands it can be in right now.

Just a question really, I'm getting the pulley kit put on while it's there and the engines out - Any idea how much improvement the kit will make ? its completely standard mcs and just wondered how much I could expect out of the kit.

This time next week I'm gonna be a happy man with my car back on road! with hopefully a bit more power

Anyone else up there then?

Alrite guys,

My car is booked in to get some work done at 1320mini on Friday, but i have a large problem...

My car TAX ran out yesterday and i need an MOT before i can TAX it...

I just got back from Mexico today and i thought i'd just be able to tax it online tonight, admittedly its my fault because i should have realised my MOT had ran out :blushing:

It's too late to book it in for an MOT for first thing in the morning so i've got a few questions...

1 - Will 1320 MOT it for me whilst I'm there because i'm gonna be there all day anyway??

2 - A friend who's a mechanic mentioned booking it in for an MOT somewhere near 1320 (because I'm travelling from Middlesbrough) and IF i get pulled by the Police they can't do anything because its booked in for that day. Is this right?? And then I'll just book it in for sat morning when i'm home.

3 - I have a Janspeed Sports cat on my car and the engine management light has came on on my dash, does this mean i wont pass emissions??

I am reluctant to cancel my appointment at 1320 because of the waiting list

Any advice or help will be worth its weight in gold

Thanks

NASA: Oct 2-3

If there are others, post them up. I cannot access PBOC on my phone.

Let's pick a date and see who shows up with what. My buddy, Victor, said that he will be in. He is a disgruntled RMW customer who replaced his $20k stroker with an engine built and tuned by a local Miami guy. He isn't quite as fast as Ian, but would like to run against him.

We have had as many as 12 MINIs at PBOC events. The Porche guys used to hang with us because we were having more fun. I might talk several others into signing up for this. We had at least 5 cars running faster than Ali Uzun's winning time at the Sebring Redline TA event.

You want it? Pick a date that works for the most people and do it!

Thumper, Jan, Ian, Mark? Who is in?

                          Privacy Glass

I'm favouring the 04 as it has a better spec, mainly because of the LSD, JCW suspension and Harmon Kardon. However the 05 has considerably lower mileage which you rarely see on R53's at this price range, and still has a pretty decent spec, but will need to find out if it has the LSD.

...

Having quite a few issues with a certain MINI dealer local to me, just after some advice really as I'm pretty confused with it all now!

Thursday 5th August
Car went in because:
- back seats were creaking - fixed
- it was slow and unresponsive plus clicking noise - fixed (no oil) :blushing:
- reset brake service warning light - fixed, front sensor replaced.

Wednesday 25th August
- MOT booked at local garage - advisory given on front brake calliper sticking, and also noticed that side skirt trim had come apart

Thursday 26th August
Back in to MINI:
- Front left brake calliper replaced under warranty
- Side skirt clipped back in

Thursday night - i hear a loud creaking sound on pull away (can only be heard inside the car), and seemed to be coming from front left corner

Friday 27th August
Back to MINI again
- had the car all day, was driven by me with senior technician so he heard the noise
- phone call saying it was all sorted and the noise had gone - and that the noise was due to (i don't know if this is true or i was told it to get me to shut up) the brake sensor pieces being both put onto one side of the car (the left side) and as they're wider they were rubbing causing the noise. This would be their fault as they replaced the sensors on the 5th?? I was also informed the car had been on a 'thorough' test drive - not sure why when it was a noise on pull away!!
- pulled car off the drive (they dropped it home) and the noise was there, just as loud as when i gave it to them that morning.

Friday night - drafted long email to dealer principal, leaving him to sort it all out.

Tonight - call from dealer principal, he rang service ready to shout at them - they told him my brake pads were not genuine and that is why the noise was still there. The brake pads came off an R57 that had done 2000 miles, so are genuine parts!

Basically, what the hell do I do now?! I'm going back to speak to the dealer principal tomorrow night, so am after some advice please.

Thanks, Nikola

Car had its MOT today and failed on the above.

I currently run powder coated r56 calipers with carbotech bobcat pads, braided lines etc.

Possible causes?

Slider problems (these were regreased recently)
Binding Pads
squashed brake line

I'm having the calipers stripped down tomorrow, reassembled and then retested.

Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Just want to make sure I can check everything before I have to grudingly go back to standard brakes... ::getcoat::

Thought it might be good to have a thread if you have had any bad experiences with big sellers on eBay?

I've had big trouble with "ultimate lighting". Ordered some halo side lights and waited and waited and messaged and had no reply until today only to find out they didn't have them and were waiting for shipment. Asked for refund which i got but not happy at all with lack of comms.
